Release2026-10-22

Anthropic donated Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation. Agent Skills is an open standard for giving AI agents specialized knowledge and workflows. Over 70 agent platforms have integrated it since its December 2025 launch. A skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file and supporting scripts or reference material. Developers published thousands of skills within weeks of its release. So far, 1 million skills have been published and nearly 280 million installed. The donation includes the name, logo, GitHub organization, and domain. AAIF will provide a neutral home for the standard. Engineers from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and others will maintain it as individuals. David Soria Parra and Mahesh Murag are Lead Maintainers. A proposed roadmap includes versioned releases, a formal proposal process, and security guidance. The project will prioritize community input and transparent decision-making.
