Incident2026-10-13

US federal agents arrested Abdulrahman Alfozan, a Saudi OpenAI engineer. He is charged with installing a hidden recording device in an executive conference room. The device was plugged into a USB port behind a television on September 28. OpenAI found it on September 30 and traced it using internal AI models. Alfozan allegedly planned to place more devices in sensitive areas. OpenAI says no model weights, source code or customer data were accessed. The FBI is investigating. Alfozan used an AI agent to probe meeting-room calendars for a month. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted. OpenAI terminated him and referred the case to the FBI.
