ChatGPT, Claude and Grok went down at nearly the same time last week. Users lost access to ChatGPT, Codex, Grok and several Claude models. GitHub Copilot users saw degraded access to Grok models. Cursor reported problems tied to outages at its upstream model providers. OpenAI blamed a routing error, and xAI cited an outage at its Memphis compute centre. Anthropic reported elevated errors but named no external cause. Forrester says no shared root cause has been confirmed. Forrester argues using several providers may not reduce risk, because they can share clouds, networks and compute partners. It advises inventorying every process that depends on an external model, API, copilot or agent. It also urges fallback plans by workflow criticality, including manual procedures and rules that pause automation.
