Most finance teams will not let software make routine financial decisions on its own. PEX, a spend management provider, surveyed 687 finance and operations leaders. Interest in the technology far outruns actual use across seven tasks it asked about. Financial report generation showed the widest gap between wanting and using. Doubts about accuracy were the most cited barrier to adoption. Poor fit with existing systems came second. Among those already piloting or using it, most reported faster manual review, and about half reported a faster month-end close. PEX chief executive Toffer Grant said trust explains the gap. He suggested starting with small tasks such as receipt chasing and statement review. The survey recommends a crawl-walk-run sequence, automating one low-effort task first.
