Anthropic launched the Life Sciences Verification Program. It gives verified life science teams access to Mythos, Opus, and Sonnet models. These models have refined safeguards more permissive for biology work. The program starts in beta for teams and institutions. Applicants must pass a review of credentials, security, and ethics. Two grant types exist: Standard Use and High-risk Use. Standard Use covers most life science tasks and renews yearly. High-risk Use removes all biology-related blocks for a single project. It renews every six months. High-risk grants for Mythos are limited to a small set of entities. All other safeguards, like cyber classifiers, remain active. Monitoring shifts from real-time blocking to offline pattern review. Flagged activity data is retained for 30 days.
What changed
Life science work was blocked by default safeguards on Mythos, Opus, and Sonnet models.
What it unlocks
Running biology-related tasks like drug discovery, research biology, clinical development, and manufacturing on Mythos, Opus, and Sonnet models.
- 30-day data retention for monitoring
- Standard Use grants renewed annually
- High-risk Use grants renewed every six months
What you need to act on it
- verification of research credentials, security standards, and ethical oversight
- application approval
- team or institution membership (initially)
- non-BAA orgs for PHI data
