GitHub has opened a public preview that lets teams mention @GitHub in Slack to have Copilot answer questions about code, triage issues, make changes in a secure cloud sandbox and open a pull request. Sessions are shared, so colleagues can follow along, add context or stop the work, and GitHub is a launch partner for Slack's new agent channels. It is limited to organizations on Copilot Business or Enterprise plans, and an administrator must switch on the cloud agent policy.
What changed
The Slack integration surfaced GitHub notifications and simple commands rather than running coding tasks.
What it unlocks
Starting a shared GitHub Copilot coding session from a Slack thread and getting a pull request back without leaving the chat.
What you need to act on it
- GitHub Copilot Business or Enterprise plan
- administrator enables the Copilot cloud agent policy
- GitHub app for Slack installed and account linked
