Incident2026-10-26

David Durman, a University of Kentucky research administrator, requested workplace accommodations to avoid using AI. He cited his Humanist beliefs as the reason. The university’s Office of Equal Opportunity approved his request on September 25. Durman continues to perform his job duties without using AI. The American Humanist Association supported his request. The AHA argues Humanism qualifies for the same religious protections under Title VII. Durman believes AI harms human wellbeing, creativity, and the environment. His accommodation was granted as it posed no undue burden on his department.
