Mastercard surveyed 26,000 parents and teenagers about shopping with AI. Teenagers were more willing than their parents to let an AI assistant choose and buy products for them. Roughly a third of teenagers said they trust AI product suggestions more than a friend's. Fewer, but still around a quarter, said they trust AI more than their parents' advice. Teenagers also used AI to research products more often than parents did. Two-thirds of parents expect AI shopping to define their children's generation. Only a small share expect the same change for themselves. Mastercard separately predicts one in ten people will routinely use AI agents to shop and pay by 2030. Retail Dive notes other research finding AI widens choice and lengthens buying decisions.
