Anthropic added a browser of its own inside the Claude Cowork desktop app, so Claude can open sites, read pages, click and fill forms in a side panel without an extension. It is separate from the user's own browser and does not see their tabs, bookmarks or passwords, though logins can be carried over site by site. Anthropic notes the same risk as any browser agent, that instructions hidden in a page can redirect Claude, and recommends starting with trusted sites.
What changed
Web tasks in Cowork required giving Claude access to the user's own browser through the Claude in Chrome extension.
What it unlocks
Handing a website task to Claude — filling a form, pulling numbers from a dashboard, collecting invoices from a portal with no connector — while continuing to work in one's own browser.
What you need to act on it
- Claude desktop app on macOS, Windows or Linux (Linux in beta)
- Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan
- Enterprise: admin enablement in Organization settings
- desktop app open and online if driving it from web or phone
