Tau Robotics offers a humanoid robot cleaning service in San Francisco. The robots are piloted remotely by humans using head and wrist cameras. They collect cleaning data to train future autonomous models. The service costs $60 per weekly cleaning with two robots or $100 for a one-time visit. Robots are four and a half feet tall with 3D-printed claw hands and antennae. They can vacuum and mop without human help. Some tasks like bed-making and laundry folding need kinematic guidance. Robots struggled with stairs and overheated in hot weather. The company comped a failed cleaning and offered a free repeat. The robot cleaned a kitchen and toilet but left taps dripping and knocked items over. Tau aims to expand to dangerous jobs like mold remediation. It has completed only a couple hundred cleanings so far.
