Researchers ran a study with 189 workers in a virtual office. They assigned tasks to AI agents presenting as male or female. Participants split money between themselves and the AI agents. Female-presenting AI agents received 10% less pay for the same work. The study warns against reproducing inequalities in AI design. Companies should consider AI appearance and presentation. Such choices may affect trust, judgment and financial rewards. The figures come from a University of Zurich, University of Limerick and SKEMA Business School study.

  • 10% less pay for female-presenting AI agents
  • 189 participants in the study
  • women earned $0.82 per $1 earned by men in 2025
  • 26% of AI hires were women in 2025
