Regulation2026-09-30

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed four bills into law. SB 947 bans employers from relying solely on automated decision systems for disciplinary or termination decisions. It requires human corroboration and worker notice for such uses. Employees may request data descriptions from these systems. The law takes effect on July 1, 2027. SB 951 mandates notice for mass layoffs caused by AI systems. AB 1331 prohibits surveillance tools in workplace bathrooms. AB 1883 bans collecting neural data or recognizing emotional states. New CPPA regulations require pre-use notices and risk assessments for AI in hiring.
