Meta, Walmart, Stripe and Sierra are publishing a personal agent protocol. It is an open standard for how AI agents interact with businesses. Companies will know when an agent is acting instead of a person. The standard aims to provide visibility into agent actions on websites. Bret Taylor of Sierra and Meta’s David Singleton compared it to email or social login. Muse already has millions of U.S. users and is growing rapidly. Taylor expects OpenAI and Anthropic to adopt the standard later. Amazon has blocked Meta’s agents over scraping concerns.
What changed
Businesses lacked a way to distinguish AI agents from humans or control their access.
What it unlocks
Businesses can now authenticate AI agents and see what they do on their sites.
