Google is moving its AI responsibility team, which studies risks such as chemical and biological misuse and the psychological effects of chatbots, out of its DeepMind research lab and into the global affairs group that handles lobbying and public policy. The team has about 90 people. Some staff told the Wall Street Journal they fear less independence and less visibility into new models, while Google said the change strengthens safety work.
