Taiwan promoted itself as a reliable chip supplier at the SEMICON Taiwan trade show. President Lai Ching-te spoke at two events on the same day. He said Taiwanese firms were expanding abroad to spread the benefits of their success. Economy Minister Kung Ming-hsin said companies planned a further $20 billion of US investment. TSMC is already building factories in Arizona. Taiwan agreed a deal with Washington this year trading investment for lower export tariffs. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said chip tariffs were still coming for firms that do not manufacture in the US. Foxconn chairman Young Liu said firms must now make with Taiwan rather than in Taiwan. The European Commission sent an official to pitch its Chips Act 2.0 to Taiwanese companies.
