IFI CLAIMS, working with IALE Tecnología, published an updated analysis of global artificial intelligence patenting. Of 209,518 AI patent applications filed worldwide in 2025, about 23% related to generative AI and 9% to agentic AI, up from 5% in IFI's previous study; in the U.S. agentic AI reached 15% of AI filings, up from 7%. Global AI grants have grown at a 35% compound annual rate and applications at 29%, with agentic applications up 59% worldwide and 40% in the U.S. over two years. Samsung led 2025 AI filings globally (2,162), ahead of Huawei (1,822) and Google (1,672); Google led generative AI while Nvidia led agentic AI (225 global, 128 U.S.). OpenAI filed 35 patents worldwide and 27 in the U.S., Anthropic 8 and 7; DeepSeek and xAI were found to hold none.
