Analysts at The Josh Bersin Co. and Gartner told HR Dive that AI agents are unlikely to empty out HR departments, despite a June projection that HR headcounts could fall 30% to 50% by 2030. They argue the work shifts rather than disappears, because someone must train and correct the agents and hold institutional knowledge. A Gartner survey of HR leaders in late April found poor internal data quality, weak system interoperability and staff resistance still blocking adoption.
