Shares in AI hardware and data centre firms fell sharply on Monday. Cybersecurity stocks rose at the same time. The moves followed a weekend essay by Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei. He wrote that AI companies must slow the pace of improving model capabilities. OpenAI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk both said they agree. Altman said pacing does not mean stopping. Amodei also stopped short of calling for a halt. The debate intensified after an Anthropic researcher resigned, saying the firms are gambling with lives. Another Anthropic safety researcher put the chance AI kills all humans within a decade above 10%. Investors expect higher spending on security software to monitor AI agents.
