Amazon and OpenAI opened a pilot that puts ChatGPT ad inventory inside Amazon's demand-side platform. Delta Vacations is among a small group of U.S. brands testing it. Amazon runs it as a managed service, so its team helps set up and optimise campaigns. Buying is available on a cost-per-click or cost-per-thousand-impressions basis. OpenAI still controls all decisions about which ads are shown. The ads appear as text and image units below ChatGPT answers, labelled as sponsored. They run only on the free tier and the cheaper Go subscription. Amazon is also offering ads generated automatically from product catalogues. Testers get aggregated data on impressions, clicks and cost per result. OpenAI began testing ads in February and reportedly discussed a deal with rival The Trade Desk earlier this year.
