Survey2026-10-23

Gartner surveyed 2,002 CIOs and tech executives for its 2027 agenda report. Only 4% have plans to retool roles for an agentic-human workforce. Enterprises with such plans are 2.4 times more likely to be top AI performers. Just 13% of CIOs report significant or transformational value from AI investments. 58% face increased demand to deliver cost improvements from prior AI spending. CIOs cite pressure from CEOs, boards and leadership to show swift returns. Many CIOs have deprioritized workforce redesign due to competing priorities. Gartner says talent strategy is now part of the CIO task list. It urges CIOs to address AI’s effect on roles and salary dynamics. The survey was published on 19 October 2026.
