Mastra now supports the MCP 2026-07-28 specification. The new spec removes server sessions so every request is self-contained. Servers can now scale across load-balanced instances or serverless platforms. The spec also removes the initialize handshake and the Mcp-Session-Id header. Every request now includes Mcp-Method and Mcp-Name headers for gateways and rate limiters. List results now include ttlMs and cacheScope hints for caching. The server/discover method exposes a server's capabilities and metadata. The requestState feature lets servers ask users questions mid-call without holding connections. Tasks are now an official extension for long-running operations. The spec deprecates HTTP+SSE transport, roots, sampling, logging, and OAuth Dynamic Client Registration.
What changed
MCP 1.0 required a session ID for every request after an initialize handshake.
What it unlocks
Scaling MCP servers like stateless HTTP services, including load-balanced or serverless deployments.
