Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell Music sued Anthropic in a California federal court, alleging the company used pirated books and scraped song lyrics to train its Claude models and that Claude reproduces lyrics in its answers. Chief executive Dario Amodei and co-founder Benjamin Mann are named personally. With this filing, the publishing arms of all three major music companies are now litigating against Anthropic.

What changed

Anthropic already faced music publishing suits from Universal, Concord, ABKCO, BMG and Round Hill, but Sony and Warner Chappell had not sued.
