Barret Zoph, a co-founder and former chief technology officer of the AI startup Thinking Machines Lab, is joining Google as a vice president of research. He had moved to OpenAI earlier this year following a dispute with Thinking Machines chief executive Mira Murati, where he led work on selling AI products to businesses. Google confirmed the hire, which follows a run of senior research departures from the company.
