Release2026-08-03

Sakana AI began selling its Japanese-language model Namazu as an API, after previously offering it only inside its own chat product. The model is built on Moonshot AI's open Kimi K2.6 and was further trained on in-house data for Japanese business use, with web search and code execution included. It works with existing OpenAI-compatible code by changing the endpoint address, and the company reports gains over the base model on Japanese benchmarks.

What changed

The Namazu model was only usable inside Sakana AI's own Sakana Chat product.
