Schneider Electric published new research on AI in buildings. AI-enabled systems could cut whole-building energy use by up to 22%. HVAC optimisation added 7.2% to 12.7% in savings. Some buildings could save over 200MWh of electricity annually. They could also avoid up to 60 tonnes of carbon each year. Annual utility savings could reach £10,000 to £36,000 per building. The study covered Australia, India and the US. It combined energy modelling with real-world pilot data. AI could more than double savings from smart controls alone. Smaller buildings may benefit most from AI energy management. Pankaj Sharma at Schneider Electric commented on the findings.

What changed

Smart building controls alone delivered lower energy savings.

What it unlocks

Achieving over double the energy savings of smart building controls alone.

  • up to 22% whole-building energy reduction
  • 7.2% to 12.7% extra HVAC savings
  • 200MWh electricity saved per year
  • 60 tonnes CO2 avoided per year

What you need to act on it

  • AI-driven HVAC optimisation
  • smart building management system
