Sony Music Publishing and Warner Chappell sued Anthropic, chief executive Dario Amodei and co-founder Benjamin Mann in a California court, alleging that lyrics from tens of thousands of copyrighted songs were copied without permission to train the Claude models and reproduced in answers to users. The publishers seek damages that could reach billions of dollars. Anthropic said it disagrees with the claims and will defend itself in court.
