Survey2026-07-31

A survey of 1,000 US managers who use AI at work found most now involve it in decisions about who to lay off or fire, and a minority ask it to weigh factors such as sick days, medical leave and age. Many said they cannot confirm whether their employer tested the tool for bias, and a large share have had no training on ethical use in HR decisions. The findings are self-reported by managers rather than verified against company records.

  • 59% use AI in layoff decisions
  • 31% have AI weigh sick days
  • 14% have AI weigh age
  • 1,000 US managers surveyed
