Atoms, the robotics and industrial automation holding company led by former Uber CEO Travis Kalanick, raised $1.7 billion in a round led by Andreessen Horowitz, with Ben Horowitz taking a board seat. Bain Capital, Fifth Wall and Uber also participated, marking a financial reconnection between Kalanick and the company that ousted him as CEO in 2017. Atoms was formed in March 2026 as a rebrand of Kalanick's CloudKitchens venture, and at that time he disclosed the acquisition of Pronto, the heavy-industry automation firm run by former Uber colleague Anthony Levandowski. Kalanick has described plans for a "wheelbase for robots" and interest in mining, but gave no product specifics in his announcement on X; he indicated the capital is largely fuel for building out the team.
