Anthrome Insight and Axialent warn that AI use can hide a loss of real skill at work. Their study drew on interviews with AI experts about behaviour and culture inside organisations. The experts said generative AI lets almost anyone produce polished-looking output. That makes work output an unreliable signal of someone's actual ability. Skills can quietly waste away beneath the polished results. Teams also lose the ability to judge who genuinely knows what, which damages trust. Stephanie Antonian of Aestora said leaders cannot tell how resilient such work is. She warned it may carry hidden liability. The authors describe AI as an amplifier of work rather than an improver. They argue leaders should watch for early signs and check that capability is real.

What changed

Leaders judged staff skills partly by the quality of their work output.
