OpenAI is ending its $1-per-year pilot for US government agencies. It is moving federal buyers to pricing based on how much they use. Federal workers will get a 50% discount from standard prices. The General Services Administration stated the change. OpenAI joined the GSA's OneGov marketplace in August of last year. OneGov lets federal agencies buy AI software at scale. The $1 terms were the steepest technology discount the purchasing arm had ever agreed. The GSA says 3.5 million federal employees have been able to use ChatGPT. It attributes $1.4 billion in cost savings to ChatGPT and other AI models.
