The EU launched a call for tenders to build up to seven AI Gigafactories. Industry leads the initiative with up to €10 billion in public funding. It aims to unlock over €20 billion in private investment. The factories will combine AI processors, software, cloud stacks, connectivity, and data centres. They will work alongside Europe’s 19 existing AI Factories. The goal is to expand Europe’s AI computing capacity. AI developed there must follow EU standards on data, safety, security, and ethics. The initiative supports Europe’s push for technological sovereignty.
