Build American AI will spend millions on the fight over data centers in swing states. The group is a nonprofit tied to the pro-AI super PAC Leading the Future. Its campaign starts in Kansas, Ohio and Wisconsin. Money will go to paid advertising, grassroots organising, research and public education. The group is also starting a new super PAC, Building the Future, to back or oppose candidates. For now it says it is focused on issues rather than particular races. It points to Colorado, Georgia and Texas as models for how states should handle data centers. It praises Texas for making companies pay their own infrastructure costs. The group says the campaign will grow as legislatures draft bills for 2027 sessions. Axios received the announcement first.

What changed

Build American AI had campaigned on AI policy without a state data center push.

  • about $50 million cash on hand
