Researchers proposed Discovery Foundation Models as systems for open-ended discovery. They define seven coupled capabilities for discovery intelligence. Zetema instantiates this framework with research-state dynamics and verification. GALILEO applies it to therapeutic discovery with a closed physical loop. The paper introduces a unified approach to train and evaluate discovery behavior. Discovery is framed as a learnable and executable capability. Code for the framework is publicly available.
What it unlocks
Foundation models can now participate in creating new problems, representations, explanations, and knowledge through open-ended discovery.
