PyTorch introduced TorchNeuron, a native backend for AWS Trainium. It lets existing PyTorch code run on Trainium chips without changes. TorchNeuron supports eager and compiled execution modes. It integrates with standard PyTorch APIs like torch.compile and torch.distributed. The backend will launch as open source under Apache 2.0 on Oct 20. It works on Trainium2 and Trainium3 hardware. Adaptive eager mode improves performance without code changes. Neuron Kernel Interface allows custom operators for both modes. Neuron Explorer provides end-to-end profiling from framework to hardware. The public beta starts the same day.
What changed
Trainium required custom code or separate libraries outside standard PyTorch APIs.
