Figure, a humanoid robot company, publicly launched Index, an app that pays people to film themselves doing everyday household and workplace tasks so the footage can train its robots. The app had been running quietly for four months and is now on Google Play and the App Store. Figure says the data feeds its Helix robot software, and it has not published results from training on it.

The data-collection app ran in stealth, and Figure had tried buying robot training data from vendors.
