Incident2026-09-14

Google now lets all engineers use Anthropic’s Opus 5 model. It is available only inside Antigravity, Google’s internal development tool. Access is granted under per-user quotas. Gemini remains Google’s primary model for internal work. Third-party models are positioned as supplementary. The move follows staff frustration with Gemini’s coding limits. Google had previously barred most employees from using outside tools like Claude. DeepMind teams and some high-priority projects already had access. Amazon made a similar change for its staff earlier this year.

What changed

Claude was restricted to select Google teams and high-priority projects.

What it unlocks

All Google engineers can now use Anthropic's Opus 5 model for internal coding work.

What you need to act on it
