OpenAI plans to spend more than $30 billion on a new data center complex in Effingham County, near Savannah, Georgia, according to a Bloomberg report dated July 22, 2026. The company has contracted with Georgia Power Co. and secured 3.2 gigawatts of electricity, which would place the site among OpenAI's largest facilities to date. Several hundred megawatts are expected to come online starting in 2028, with the remainder of the build-out extending through 2032. For scale, one gigawatt can power roughly 750,000 US homes at a given moment. The investment is framed as a response to rising demand for AI software following OpenAI's earlier Stargate site in Abilene, Texas.
