Survey2026-10-27

BlackRock surveyed 463 insurance executives across 31 countries. It found a 22-point gap between C-suite and senior managers on AI progress. 60% report at least one AI use case at scale. The gap is widest in underwriting, claims and compliance. AI is furthest along in core insurance work rather than investment. 54% have scaled AI in underwriting and pricing. 53% have it in claims, fraud and servicing. 52% have it in compliance and reporting. Only 38% have scaled AI in investment research. 33% have it in security selection and credit monitoring. 62% of insurers plan to increase AI spending over the next year. Regulatory and compliance concerns are the top barrier to scaling AI. Cybersecurity and operational risk follow closely. Data quality and system integration are also major hurdles. Cost is a lesser concern. Insurers are also financing AI infrastructure buildout. The figures come from a BlackRock survey.
