A preprint posted on 12 August estimates that almost nine in ten English-language biomedical papers published in December 2025 and archived in PubMed Central show signs of writing help from AI chat tools, up from roughly half of 2024 papers. The estimate rests on counting words that such tools favour, and it has not yet been peer reviewed. Signs appeared more often in abstracts, introductions and discussions than in methods and results.
