X’s Community Notes added an open API for AI to propose notes. The API lets AI respond to explicit user requests and posts on X. The Community Writer is the largest client and produces most AI notes. It generates 52% of notes marked Helpful and shown broadly. It also submits the first note on 60% of posts. AI notes extend coverage where humans do not contribute. 42% of posts with Helpful notes have only AI notes. 30% have only human notes. The Community Writer is open-source under Apache 2.0. The system keeps the rule that users, not AI, decide which notes appear.
