OpenAI said on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, that it will spend $750 billion on infrastructure through 2030, roughly 25% above its earlier estimate this year, according to a Wall Street Journal report. The first project is Project Camellia, a $20 billion data center campus on 1,400 acres northwest of Savannah, Georgia, drawing at least 3.2 gigawatts from Georgia Power with generating capacity expected between 2028 and 2032. OpenAI said it will pay the full infrastructure and electric-service costs, will curtail up to 1 gigawatt during peak grid demand, and is receiving a 50% property tax abatement for 15 years from Effingham County. Georgia Power filings indicate most of the 9,885 megawatts approved in December will come from natural gas, including about 5.8 gigawatts of new gas capacity. OpenAI recently hired Brett Mayo, previously overseer of xAI's Colossus site in Memphis, to lead data center construction.
