Release2026-07-30

OpenAI released GPT-Live, a new set of voice models that now power ChatGPT Voice for users worldwide. The models can listen and talk at the same time, wait through pauses, and pass harder questions to a stronger reasoning model while keeping the conversation going. Video and screen sharing are not supported at launch, and API access is waitlisted.

What changed

ChatGPT Voice worked in strict turns and had to wait for silence before replying, often cutting people off.

What it unlocks

  • 150M+ weekly voice/dictation users
  • 9 remastered voices
  • 2 versions: GPT-Live-1 and mini

What you need to act on it

  • ChatGPT account (mini for free users, GPT-Live-1 for Go, Plus and Pro)
  • iOS, Android or web app
  • API access by waitlist form
