The Internet Watch Foundation assessed 6,310 AI images meeting the legal definition of child sexual abuse in 2026. This is 40% higher than the 4,500 images assessed in all of 2025. Most images depicted girls aged seven to 13. The IWF called for binding legislation to compel companies to build safer AI models. UK law already bans AI models used to create such material. The Report Remove service received 420 reports from children about faked explicit images in 2026. This exceeds the 2025 total of 397. The IWF and National Crime Agency advised parents to limit sharing children’s images online. The UK government stated that creating or distributing such models is illegal. Offenders face up to five years in prison.
