At the Hot Chips conference, Nvidia described plans to extend CUDA, its GPU programming software, to systems built on the open RISC-V processor architecture, which until now supported only x86 and Arm host chips. Nvidia set a long list of server-grade hardware requirements that almost no existing RISC-V hardware meets. It is working with chip designer SiFive, which planned to demonstrate a system running CUDA at the event.
