Researchers at the University of Southampton and University Hospital Southampton released CenSegNet, free open-source software that uses AI to map abnormalities in cell structures called centrosomes across whole tumour samples. Applied to breast cancer tissue, it separated two distinct types of defect that had been treated as one, and linked enlarged centrosomes to more aggressive disease. The tool is not ready for routine clinical use.
