Google added voice input to the Gemini app for macOS. Holding the Fn key lets someone dictate into any window, with filler words and mid-sentence corrections removed before the text is inserted at the cursor. An optional setting lets Gemini read what is on screen and act on spoken instructions, such as summarizing highlighted files or rewriting selected text. The feature is rolling out worldwide in English only.
What changed
The macOS Gemini app had no system-wide voice dictation or on-screen voice commands.
What it unlocks
Dictating cleaned-up text into any Mac application, and using spoken instructions to summarize highlighted files, rewrite selected text or edit images on screen.
