The White House announced more than $5 billion in federal commitments to expand the Genesis Mission, the US government programme applying AI to scientific research, from a Department of Energy effort into one spanning over 15 agencies. It named 18 national science and technology challenges covering chronic disease, pediatric cancer, the electricity grid, semiconductors, materials, quantum computing and biological threat detection, and said 278 projects have been selected. Participating agencies will contribute data, facilities and funding through a shared DOE-built computing platform.

The Genesis Mission began in November 2025 as a Department of Energy effort under a presidential executive order.
What it unlocks
Researchers at participating institutions can access shared federal data, computing power and AI tools through the DOE-built American Science and Security Platform to work on 18 named national challenges.
