US President Donald Trump named Jay Clayton as the administration's AI czar. Clayton will head the new Super Intelligence Force. The task force will coordinate federal efforts to maintain US leadership in AI. It will engage with consumers, religious groups, AI companies and other stakeholders. SIF aims to ensure US leadership in what Trump calls super intelligence. It also seeks to protect American interests and improve lives. Clayton’s panel has 120 days to produce a report on AI risks and opportunities. The report will recommend the federal government’s role. The task force will review AI risks and current incident reporting mechanisms. It will propose ways to strengthen federal response capabilities. Trump has taken a light-touch approach to AI regulation. He does not want to collaborate with China on AI governance. The panel includes FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon CTO Emil Michael and OPM Director Scott Kupor.
