A study tested AI agents on robotic engineering tasks at an SME. The agents did not improve productivity except for highly repetitive code. Results improved as engineers learned to use the agents and the agents were adapted. AI experience mattered more than robotic engineering experience for success. Companies must train engineers, allow time for a learning curve and match agent setups to the domain. Productivity studies should run long enough to capture how engineers adopt agents.
