Technology employers cut more than 6,300 jobs in the first days of September 2026. Uber is eliminating about 3,300 roles, ten percent of its global staff. It is the company's largest cut since the pandemic. PayPal is reducing jobs worldwide, with more than a thousand affected. Its Indian cuts cover 220 roles in Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad, across technology, engineering, operations, payments and finance. Zomato and Apple together reduced close to 250 roles. Oracle is expected to cut a further 7,000 to 8,000 staff globally. Business Today attributes the trend to AI and automation adoption, slower growth and post-pandemic over-hiring. The running totals come from tracking site Layoffs.fyi.
